Text Statistics
Count characters, words, lines, paragraphs, and UTF-8 bytes; estimate reading time.
What this tool does
Paste any text to instantly get character counts (with and without spaces), word counts, sentences, paragraphs, lines, and estimated reading time. Chinese is counted per character, English per word, and mixed text gets both metrics side by side. Everything is computed locally, so unpublished drafts and contracts never leave your device.
Typical use cases
Anything with a length limit: thesis abstracts, résumés, article titles, tweets, SEO titles (~60 characters) and meta descriptions (~160 characters). Translators quote by word count — paste the source text for a quick estimate. Content editors use reading time to pace articles, assuming roughly 300–500 Chinese characters or ~200 English words per minute.
A note on counting rules
When two tools disagree, it is usually a definition difference: whether “characters” include spaces and newlines, and how “words” treat Chinese (one character = one word in Word's count). This tool shows each metric separately — confirm which definition your client or platform uses before submitting. Reading time is an estimate; technical documents read far slower than fiction.
